    CURRENCY

    The dollar is the basic unit of American currency. Foreign currency is not accepted. You can exchange currency at both O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.     DRIVING REGULATIONS

    • Legal driving age is 16 years old.
    • Legal car rental age is typically 25 however this varies per company.
    ELECTRICITY

    The U.S. uses 110-120 volts. 60 cycles is standard. If your small appliance uses 220-240 volts, you’ll need to bring a voltage converter and a plug adapter with two flat parallel pins.
    LIQUOR, GAMING AND SMOKING REGULATIONS

    • Legal drinking and gaming age is 21 (photo ID with birth date or passport required).

    Illinois is in the Central Standard Time Zone (six hours earlier than GMT). CST is also one hour earlier than the East Coast and two hours later than the West Coast.

    The custom of tipping personnel is a generally accepted practice in Illinois.
